Dec 4, 2019 · After around 40 years of prairie dog shooting I have narrowed down my ammo choices,40 grain vmax and the 55 grain bulk soft points from Mid-South. I use benchmark powder for both bullets and full length size all my cases because I use the same load in three 223 rifles. I like to keep things simple

Jan 17, 2017 · 400-600 yards isn't so far that it takes even a .223/5.56 out of the running for prairie dogs. I shoot quite a bit in windy conditions over prairie dog fields and have used both 5.56 and 22-250 to good effect at those distances and beyond. While the .223/5.56 works just fine, the 22-250 is easier to shoot in the wind.

May 17, 2002 · I live in prairie dog country and have shot a bunch of p dogs with the .17 HMR rifle. At 150 Yds the 17 GR bullet has about 100 ft/lb of energy ,and at 200 Yds its down to about 70 ft/lb of energy. I some what limit my shots to 150 Yds where the bullet still open up when hitting a p dog at any angle.
